Most people tend to focus so much time on women’s attire for the wedding that the men often seem like an afterthought. But grooms, this is your day too! Don’t let the big day sneak up on the you without getting a plan in place to make everyone in the wedding party look amazing.
There is a style to the wedding that is being set by the location, invitations, and of course, the bride’s attire. The gentlemen should be in sync with the style of the wedding, and so need to understand what environment they are working with. Even if you haven’t seen the brides dress (this tends to be on most people’s list of wedding no-no’s), you can get a feel for exactly what type of gown she is getting. Discuss the options for the groom’s attire together. Also discuss if the groom plan’s to be matching his groomsmen and if so, to what extent. The attire doesn’t have to be identical unless that’s the desire.
The other major question that comes up with groom’s clothing is when to get it. Since guys attire is generally less custom than the bridal attire or bridesmaid’s dresses, there is a little more wiggle room. However, you still don’t want to wait until the last minute. It’s important to get a feel for what looks good on you personally along with the right style for the event, so you’ll want to try on a few different options. You’ll also want to shop around for a reliable vendor, and ensure they have what you need for the entire bridal party. If your wedding is in a busy season, you don’t want to run the risk of not being able to find what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for custom-made (tailored) clothing, you’ll definitely want to discuss with your tailor sooner rather than later.
Of course, it’s possible for the bride to select all the attire for the wedding, but it still makes sense to get your groom’s input if you haven’t had to purchase a lot of men’s formal wear, or if your groom isn’t accustomed to wearing this type of formal wear.
